The poor man, by dint of labor and economy, imposing privations on himself,
'Á força de' — by sheer force of work and saving. The father sets himself deliberate hardships, wringing the ransom out of his own comfort. The verbs are all of self-denial: what the master will not give, Miguel tears from his own life.
