Her hands are at the wheel but her mind is elsewhere. 'Entregue' — given over, surrendered — she belongs less to the work than to the 'inquietadoras reflexões,' the disquieting thoughts, that the day's cruelties have stirred. The narrator marks the gap between the busy body and the burdened soul before painting each in turn.
