— Boa tarde, linda Isaura. Então, como vae essa flor?
— Good afternoon, lovely Isaura. Well, how goes this flower?
André opens with a dandy's gallantry. 'Como vae essa flor?' — how goes this flower? — is the practised line of a would-be charmer, casting Isaura as a bloom to be admired and plucked. Where Leôncio menaces and Henrique wheedles, André flirts; the register is lighter, but the aim is the same appropriation.
