The narrator's two words fix André in place: 'pachola,' a jaunty, self-pleased fellow, all show, and 'faceirice,' coquetry, the vanity of one forever performing his own charm. It is the language of comedy, not menace; André is a figure to be smiled at even as he pesters, the buffoon in a gallery of predators.
