A note on this passage

The unfinished 'now...' does the sneering — the pleasure of watching the favourite brought low. Isaura's old place in the parlour, beside her mistress, is recast as putting on airs; the senzala's envy of the house-slave surfaces, and Rosa is waiting to sharpen it.
