The trap closes: Malvina, needing to vent 'os ciumes e desgostos' that 'fervião e transvasavão do coração' — seethed and overflowed from her heart — confides in the very person who wills her harm. 'Desabafava,' she let off the pressure, and Rosa was always there to catch and twist it. The two verbs of boiling and spilling over make Malvina's grief a physical excess, and each overflow feeds Rosa's slander.
