The flattery reaches for the sublime: no 'ouro no mundo' could equal the 'inestimaveis encantos' the heavens gave her. But listen to what the praise assumes — that Isaura is a treasure to be valued, priced, possessed, only at a rate no gold can meet. Even his highest compliment keeps her an object; he raises her worth to infinity precisely so that no one but he may claim her. Adoration and ownership are, in his mouth, the same act.
