Fez um esforço supremo: contraindo-se conseguiu reerguer-se; deu dois passos vacilantes, girou no ar e foi bater de encontro a uma árvore, com a qual se abraçou convulsivamente.
But then he remembered Cecília, his mistress, whom he had to avenge and for whom he must live in order to save her and watch over her. He made a supreme effort: contracting himself he managed to rise again; took two staggering steps, spun in the air, and struck against a tree, which he embraced convulsively.
