Fr. Ângelo levantou-se, arrancou o hábito com um gesto desesperado, e pisou-o aos pés; sobre o recosto do leito havia uma muda de roupa com que trajou-se; tirou as armas do cadáver, apanhou o chapéu de feltro, e apertando ao peito o manuscrito, dirigiu-se à porta.
Fr. Ângelo rose, tore off the habit with a desperate gesture, and trod it under his feet; on the head of the bed there was a change of clothes, which he put on; he took the weapons from the corpse, picked up the felt hat, and pressing the manuscript to his chest, made for the door.
