A body of horsemen, which would number at most fifteen people, skirted the right bank of the Paraíba.
The bandeira appears: a troop of some fifteen riders skirting the right bank of the Paraíba.
The camera pulls back to a wide shot: a small armed company moving along the same river the first chapter described. Alencar ties the new scene to the old geography — the Paraíba again — so we feel these riders converging on the house we already know.
