The large blue eyes, half-closed, at times opened languidly as if to drink in the light, and lowered the rosy eyelids once more.
Chapter V. The scene shifts from the jaguar hunt to the garden of the Paquequer house, where Cecília — 'the lovely girl' — is introduced.
The description proceeds like a slow camera, feature by feature. The drowsy opening and closing of the eyes gives Cecília a stillness that is almost sleep — the ease of someone who has never known danger, which the novel will spend its length threatening.
