Chapter V. The banter turns to real worry — Peri has been gone two days — and Cecília, troubled, turns to her tame deer.
The shudder gives her away before her words do. What began as a joke about a 'tame animal' has become fear for a man's life, and Alencar marks the shift in her body — the involuntary tremor of someone who cares far more than she has admitted, even to herself.
