<p><span class="gk">παραδοθῆναι</span> is "to be handed over" or "delivered up" — the same verb Mark uses repeatedly of Jesus from 9:31 onward, and of Judas' act. English versions commonly render it here as "put in prison" or "cast into prison," which supplies information the Greek does not contain and hides the repetition. Young's Literal keeps "delivered up."</p><p>The passive has no stated agent. Who handed John over is left unsaid, and the same silence attends the verb everywhere Mark uses it.</p>
