Papyri Graecae Magicae IV.590 · Hear me, lord who bound the fiery boltsIV.590Hear me, lord who bound the fiery bolts
The third and greatest formula, spoken with eyes shut, invokes the fire-god by a cascade of light-and-fire titles, each Greek epithet answered by a secret name: lord who bound the fiery bolts of the fourfold framework — fire-ranger (Pentiterouni), creator of light (Semesilam), fire-breather (Psyrinpheu), fire-hearted (Iaō).

Interpretation
'Hear me, hear me — so-and-so, child of so-and-so — O lord, you who bound with spirit the fiery bolts of the fourfold framework: fire-ranger, pentiterouni; creator of light (others: joint-shutter), Semesilam; fire-breather, psyrinpheu; fire-hearted, Iaō;
The final invocation is built like a double helix: one strand Greek, one strand pure sound. Every title is a compound of pŷr (fire) or phôs (light) — fire-ranger, creator of light, fire-breather, fire-hearted — and every title is answered, like a call-and-response, by a name that means nothing and does everything: pentiterouni, Semesilam, psyrinpheu. The Greek says what the god is; the name is how you reach him.
One of the names is not nonsense. Iaō is the great magical rendering of the Hebrew divine name, YHWH, and it stands here at the head of the litany, the God of the Jews naturalized into an Egyptian-Greek fire-rite — exactly the syncretism the magical papyri run on. And the deed the god is praised for is cosmic engineering: he “bound with spirit the fiery bolts of the fourfold framework,” locked the four elements into a structure with breath for a bar. The initiate is addressing the being who fastened the universe shut — and asking him, next, to open it.
