καὶ ἐκάλεσεν ὁ θεὸς τὸ φῶς ἡμέραν, καὶ τὸ σκότος ἐκάλεσεν νύκτα. καὶ ἐγένετο ἑσπέρα καὶ ἐγένετο πρωί, ἡμέρα μία.
God names what he has made — calling is itself an act of ordering, distinct from making. “Evening, then morning” (not the reverse) becomes the Bible's recurring formula for a day, the basis of the Jewish reckoning of days from sunset.
