ἀκάνθας καὶ τριβόλους ἀνατελεῖ σοι, καὶ φάγῃ τὸν χόρτον τοῦ ἀγροῦ.
The ground's curse works itself out concretely: cultivated food gives way to volunteer weeds, and the field's produce (χόρτος, "grass, fodder" — the animals' food, not humanity's intended diet) becomes what Adam must now eat by necessity rather than plan.
