ἐφθάρη δὲ ἡ γῆ ἐναντίον τοῦ θεοῦ, καὶ ἐπλήσθη ἡ γῆ ἀδικίας.
ἀδικία, properly “unrighteousness, injustice” — a more legal/moral term than the traditional English “violence” that most translations use here (rendering the broader Hebrew חָמָָס, chamas, which covers violent wrongdoing generally). ἐφθάρη/ἐπλήσθη, “was corrupted”/“was filled”, form a pair that recurs through vv.11–13 and v.17: the earth’s corruption is both stated as fact and driven home by repetition.
