τὸ δὲ ὕδωρ ἐπεκράτει σφόδρα σφοδρῶς ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, καὶ ἐπεκάλυψεν πάντα τὰ ὄρη τὰ ὑψηλὰ ἃ ἦν ὑποκάτω τοῦ οὐρανοῦ.
σφόδρα σφοδρῶς, “exceedingly, exceedingly,” doubles the adverb for emphasis — rendering a Hebrew doubling (מְאֹד מְאֹד) at the flood's high-water mark, when even the highest mountains under heaven vanish.
