καὶ εἶπεν Κύριος ὁ θεὸς πρὸς Νῶε Τοῦτο τὸ σημεῖον τῆς διαθήκης ὃ ἐγὼ δίδωμι ἀνὰ μέσον ἐμοῦ καὶ ὑμῶν καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον πάσης ψυχῆς ζώσης ἥ ἐστιν μεθ᾽ ὑμῶν εἰς γενεὰς αἰωνίους·
σημεῖον ("sign") is a major NT theological word (John's Gospel structures itself around Jesus's signs; Matt 12:38-39, 16:1-4; Rom 4:11 of circumcision as "a sign of the covenant"). ἀνὰ μέσον ("between," literally "up through the middle") is the LXX's idiom for a covenant relationship between two parties, here God and "every living creature."
