ἐξένηψεν ("sobered up") shares its root with 1 Cor 15:34's ἐκνήψατε, "wake up, become sober" — Paul's own metaphorical use of the same rare verb for spiritual alertness. νεώτερος ("younger") — comparative of νέος — is the standard NT word for a younger person, most famously the prodigal son, ὁ νεώτερος υἱός (Luke 15:12-13).
