Isaura, however, does not stir, and goes on spinning.
The one still point in the moving room. Isaura keeps her seat and her thread — not defiance, but withdrawal: she would rather stay at her work than go down to the common meal and Rosa's company. The image of the lone spinner at her wheel, chosen over food and rest, quietly measures how heavy the day has been.
