— Well? Rosa says to her with her mocking air, — don't you hear, Isaura?
Rosa cannot let her be even now. Her 'ar escarninho' — mocking air — turns even the dinner-bell into an occasion for a dig, and 'você não ouve?,' don't you hear?, pretends concern while poking at Isaura's refusal to join them. The scorn is habitual; she needles by reflex.
