He recovers his footing with rough familiarity — 'minha camarada,' my comrade, my mate — dropping the wounded courtier for the pragmatic equal. His point is a leveller's: she cannot always have the fine gentlemen, so she had better look among her own. It is a truth (their shared condition) bent to a seducer's purpose.
