for the love of God, don't go telling anything to anyone.

A note on this passage

The plea is abject: 'pelo amor de Deos,' for the love of God, tell no one. His fear is not of Isaura's scorn but of the master's punishment, and the same threat she used to drive him off — reporting him to Leôncio — now has him begging. Power on the plantation flows only one way, and even the swaggering page knows exactly where he stands in it.
