Her wisdom is a proverb: 'after me will come one who'll make me look good' — you only value a thing once something worse replaces it. The old master was cruel too, but tia Joaquina is warning that Leôncio will be the yardstick that makes even him look mild. It is grim folk-realism, no illusions about the 'good old days.'
