I've long meant to recommend this to you, and kept forgetting.
He dresses the sudden order as old estate business — something he had 'long meant' to arrange and merely forgot. The pretext is plausible and cheap, a manager tidying his operation. Only the reader, and Leôncio, know that the timing is not administrative at all: the room is being cleared today because Isaura is in it, alone.
