Overwhelmed by this new misfortune, Isaura made some attempts to draw near her mistress,
The estrangement is 'aquelle novo infortunio,' this new misfortune, piled onto all the others. Yet Isaura's instinct is not to withdraw but to 'achegar-se,' to draw closer, to repair the bond. 'Acabrunhada' — crushed, weighed down — she still reaches toward the woman who has turned from her. Her decency is unbroken even as her hopes collapse.
