Unknown to the others, he directed this conspiracy that smoldered silently; in the whole band there were only two persons who could ruin him. Now, Loredano was not a man to fail to foresee the chance of a betrayal, nor to hand his two accomplices a weapon with which they might wound him; hence the idea of that testament he had given to D. Antônio de Mariz.
