Álvaro had that gift of skilled hunters; as soon as the wind brought him a crackle of dry leaves trodden underfoot, he raised his head and swept the field with his eyes; then, out of prudence, he leaned against the thick trunk of a lone tree, and crossing his arms over his carbine, he waited.
